Monorails pretty much have a very particular niche that they fit into. If you want to have a long-distance line with relatively few stops that can go over roads, then go with a monorail. If you want more frequent stops with the ability to go underground, go with a metro. Or use both, they can both fit into the same traffic hierarchy.
